Astrophytum asterias is a species of cactus in the genus Astrophytum, and is native to small parts of Texas in the United States and Mexico. Common names include sand dollar cactus, sea urchin cactus, star cactus and star peyote.

ABOUT : Astrophytum asterias is an unusual-looking cactus that grows well as an indoor plant. This round cactus goes by the easier common names of Star cactus, Astro cactus, Sea Urchin cactus, or Sand Dollar cactus, and is sometimes referred to as a living rock.

The spineless dome-shaped olive green body of the Astrophytum asterias has eight symmetrical segments. Each segment has small tufts of white hairs.

Star cacti stay small. Indoors they rarely grow more than four inches across.
